My personal art making is a mixture of contemplative and meditative creative spiritual practice, stream of consciousness creating, mediumship, and processing the mystical experience of the Divine. It is my sacred act of expression and creation. It is also freeing, fun and exploratory. My art is an expression of my pain and the healing process - repurposed, reused for the gifts that it has given as well. It is a channeling of spirit, where those that have gone before come through and provide glimpses of their message. It is all these things that can only be created in authenticity, open and vulnerable, listening and hearing the things that come through the soul, heart, sensation. These things cannot be throughout in composition. Nor do they follow elements and principles of art. The technical fades and the magic of mystical creation occurs.
I work predominantly in mixed media 2 D work but have and am venturing into fibers and 3D work. I am heavily influenced by nature, vibrant Southwest color palate, uncovering and expressing my internal landscape and connecting with the Divine Creator God through this practice. I engage in both Lectio and Visio Divina practices as well. My favorite tools are watercolors, acrylics, pen and ink, collaged papers, stamps, threads and oil pastels, Inktense pencils, all kinds of pens, and mark making materials, charcoal, kitchen gadgets, found objects anywhere but mostly things other have thrown away and looking at the world of art, not from it's technical, elitest view but from the standpoint of access to authenticity and engagement.
The original artwork created by Jessica through a meditative, intuitive channeled state that offers stream of consciousness creation connecting the spirit world to this living plane can be found at our Etsy shop. For more information and to see more of Jessica's art, click here.
Art as expression and spiritual practice is what I engage in. Since 2000 I have taught art, music, poetry and movement to children and adults through the use of expressive arts education. I have also used it as therapy for process oriented healing of my own traumatic experiences and have worked with individuals for spiritual and personal growth, therapeutic arts coaching, and creative exploration for the past 20 years incorporating mindfulness practices with expressive and therapeutic arts practice.
I am heavily influenced by the work of the Abstract Expressionists, The Transcendentalist Painting Group, contemporary artists Flora Bowley, Sark, Shilo Sophia, Amy Mericle, mindful art processes, Dharma Art, neurographica/neurographic art and art as contemplative and spiritual practice. I use asemmic and automatic writing in my mixed media work as well as different print making processes, watercolor and acrylic processes, exploratory and experimental play, stitching and stitch meditations, soft sculpture and ceramics, contemplative photography, pen and ink and found objects. My inspiration comes from life, observation, love, contemplation, nature, myth, spiritual practices, channeling and delivered content in dreams or visions. My Ottawa/Ojibwe heritage elements are often infuse into these modern and contemporary processes.
